Dear Transport Crime Network colleagues,

Some of you already know that night-time lighting is measurable worldwide. It gives one indicator of night-time population. The excess of lighting over census residential population is a measure of nightlife and may also help predict crime at night, while providing an alternative denominator for crime rates. This also provides a potential variable to be linked to transit usage and problems. One relevant article is attached. Some of the data are proprietary but I think some data are in the public domain.
