Since Gromacs is the client program it doesn't really "support" certain 
versions, but it requires at least the first version 1.0 of the MPI 
standard. I have never seen any implementation that doesn't work, so 
once you have an MPI library Gromacs should be happy.

You can find all MPI calls used by grepping for "MPI_" in 
src/gmxlib/network.c
