That also looks nice and simple, but again the trajectory needs to be 
accessible locally. I am sure that one can add recieving over network via 
rpc/whatever in VMD as well.

Oh ok, didn't know about that. Have to read out more about it but my 
conclusion is, that it's probably best then to implement the same protocol 
into the "server" Gromacs (as Marc Baaden apperantly did) and in case of 
other clients, like PyMol, implement it there as well.
