Dear all,

The Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology seeks to fill two
vacancies for full-time Research Programmers. The function of the Research
Programmers is to bolster the development of the Center’s biomolecular
modeling, simulation, visualization, and analysis programs VMD (Visual
Molecular Dynamics) and NAMD (Nanoscale Molecular Dynamics).

Duties and Responsibilities:

Identify and design features needed by the user community
Collaborate with members of the programming team to develop new features
Implement simulation, analysis, and visualization methods and algorithms
Improve performance (e.g., through tuning the code and GPU acceleration)
Document, test, and debug new revisions of the software for release
Respond to questions and bug reports from users
Assist with workshops and other training activities
Contribute to reports, publications, presentations, and proposals


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a physical or mathematical discipline or computer
science
Relevant training and/or experience in scientific computing
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work both independently and in close collaboration with
researchers of diverse backgrounds


Preferred Qualifications:

Relevant training and/or experience in biomolecular simulation,
computational chemistry or other scientific computing, including software
development and distribution
Experience in implementing users’ requested features
Experience in developing and implementing automated workflows commonly used
in computational chemistry research
Experience in graphical user interface (GUI) development
Experience in high-performance parallel or distributed computing
Knowledge of C, C++, CUDA, OpenCL, Tcl, Tk, Python, MPI and/or Charm++


This is a full-time, benefits-eligible Academic Professional position.
