Yes, it was compiled with the loops.

I am currently going through reinstalling a few things, different 
configurations etc.  I found a couple of references to this problem in the 
archive for this emailing list that I had missed previously, and are trying 
the things mentioned there.

I will let you know how it all goes .... hopefully much better :-)
