Weird, the only time I've seen this was when someone renamed an xtc file
to a trr file.

Try cutting the trr where the problem is (using split) and see whether
you can make out what's going on with the rest of the file. Is the
problem at the start of one the original files?

If you still have the original files you could also try to just recreate
the file.

Finally, is it the 2 Gb problem on Linux?
