[gmx-users] covariant matrix

I made a covraiant matrix of 577 c alpha atoms 1731 coordinates from the trajectory analysis 
I expect the matrix to be 1731 * (1731+1)/2 elements.
But I have 577*1731 elements. Please help me to what these elements represent. I want use use these values to get a xpm matrix similar to what we get now from g_covar. I want sharper colors
