I still don't know exactly what the problem was, but since I have
already decided to redo these runs I have lost my interest in that
exact information.
As an aside: bug 108 did not show up on a search for gcc, although it
clearly contains the word. The search returned bugs 141 and 102 --
both relevant, but why it does not also return 108 is unclear

Agreed. In my case, I knew the issues and just installed without
thinking enough. The tests are most important for new users I think.
