Then it sounds like a bug the VMD folks should be aware of, but it works fine 
for colleagues of mine who use VMD on Windows.  Could it just be that your 
system is running out of memory?  Using large .trr files could be causing a 
problem.  Have you tried loading an .xtc instead?

I think Pymol and Chimera can import .trr files, but I don't have a whole lot of 
experience there.
