Indeed, the headers are the same in both. Maybe Erik did not commit his
cnofigure.ac to CVS yet. However the CVS trees are already diverging, we
are putting all bug-fixes in 3.3_rc1 but doing new stuff  in the head
branch. 

By the way you may download the head branch just like:
cvs co gmx

to avoid putting a tag on it.
