[gmx-users] fatal error: xtc error

I am running a 5ns long simulation.
This suddenly stopped after around 1.2ns. The last line of the log file
reads:

Fatal error: XTC error

What causes this error? My mdrun gives a .trr and a .xtc file as an output.
Is this .xtc file corrupt? How can I correct this?
