[gmx-users] binutils

Hello All,

I am new to GROMACS. I am trying to install gromacs-3.3.  while configuring i 
am getting the following error

"Upgrade to binutils >= 2.12.1 (or disable assembly loops)"

However the output of as --version is as follows

"GNU assembler 2.13.1
Copyright 2002 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
This program is free software; you may redistribute it under the terms of
the GNU General Public License.  This program has absolutely no warranty.
This assembler was configured for a target of `i686-pc-linux-gnu' "

and the output of    which as is

 "/usr/local/bin/as"

output of echo $PATH is

"/home/smolin/gromacs/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/bin:/usr/lib/java/bin:/usr/games/bin:/usr/games:/opt/gnome/bin:/opt/kde2/bin:"

output  of uname -a is
Linux pinkish 2.4.10-4GB #1 Fri Sep 28 17:20:21 GMT 2001 i686 unknown
