There are GROMACS packages in Debian[1] which I use for quite a long time
without problems. I can't say about Ubuntu but I'm quite sure you'll find
it there.

However, if you need the double-precision version, you have to compile
GROMACS yourself. It's very easy doing so from the Debian source package.
